Formal vs. Informal Dining

Q.What is the difference in place settings for formal and informal dining? Marie Smith, Concord, CA
A. The difference in an informal and formal dining setting is in the number of utensils, plates, and glasses on the table. With all the additional pieces in a formal setting you may not be sure where to begin -- start with the fork to your left and remember your table manners. Enjoy your meal.

Tips on Tipping

Q. How did tipping for meal start and what’s considered an acceptable amount?
- Anthony Shaven, Oakland, CA
A. In the past, tips were discreetly given to the host as a guarantee for wonderful service and great seating. Everyone knows that tipping is optional in the US. For good service, a tip of 15% to 20% of the bill is appropriate depending on the party size and the dining style. For a FREE Tipping Tip Card email our office at contactus@prideinpresence.com
